TIP: Book Early. It’s not easy to book a same-day lunch at The Eiffel Tower because the wait list is quite long. Reservations must be made at least 5 to 6 weeks in advance.
If you are planning to dine at the Eiffel Tower (which is always a good idea), there are 4 levels to enjoy so take a virtual trip from the bottom to the top and discover tips from start to finish.
The Esplanade
There was a time when you could walk the grounds of The Eiffel Tower and touch one of the four iron pillars, literally! With recent world events, the Esplanade is surrounded by tall glass walls and entry requires passage through security checks.
The lines can be long, but they move at a reasonable pace. With the Eiffel Tower being one of the top 5 attractions in Paris, allow yourself at least thirty minutes to enter the ground level.
Upon entry, you can wander the open area and view the Trocadero. The Information Desk is on the West end of the tower where you can purchase tickets or make restaurant reservations.
Visiting the Esplanade is the best budget-friendly experience. You can examine the iconic architecture, take a selfie with the bronze bust of Gustave Eiffel sculpted by Émile Antoine Bourdelle (corner of the NORTH pillar), or glimpse the hydraulic lift equipment which dates to the 19th century.
From here, you can travel to the first floor one of two ways:
- To take the elevators, go to the EAST or WEST pillars. Visitors with tickets should join the lines with a green flag. Those without tickets should join the line with a yellow flag.
- To take the stairs, entry is at the SOUTH pillar. During peak periods, another stairway may be open, look for signs.
First Floor
The first floor is a wide area with plenty of spaces to explore. You will find cultural exhibitions, a play area, kiosks for quick bites and drinks, gift shops, a transparent floor that allows you to see what’s happening below on the esplanade, and dining options, including the 58 Tour Eiffel restaurant.
Reservations at the 58 Tour Eiffel Restaurant require good planning. When you purchase tickets online you are issued an e-ticket/voucher, and you’ll need to visit the check-in stand to trade it in for the actual lunch tickets.
Tip: Make sure you allow yourself time to pass through the entry, ticket stand, and elevator queue (on my last visit, it about 45 minutes to receive our tickets and get to the first floor. You may make advanced reservations on the Eiffel Tower’s website or third-party providers, be sure to check multiple websites.
I have dined at 58 Tour Eiffel a few times and used both websites. Between the two, the best deal swings in favor of option #1. It will also depend on how strong the dollar is compared to the Euro. If you time it right, you could save a bit of change.
Also, note that Viator has several options available with lunch (for example, you can add a cruise on the River Seine or a fully guided tour of the tower), both add a richer and more unique experience.
Tip: Always try the Viator site, even if the 58 Tour Eiffel site says it has no availability. I don’t know how they do it (maybe a partnership), but they can work behind the scenes and get a reservation on your behalf!
58 Tour Eiffel is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is a rotating lunch menu that is inspired by Chef Thierry Marx; however, the menu of the day is fixed. There are 4 to 5 selections for each course — first (appetizer), second (entree), and third (dessert) and the options are palatable for vegetarians and carnivores. A drink, soda or wine, is included with lunch. Below are selections from our recent visit.
The dishes are flavorful and filling. There is a photographer that visits each table to capture the memory (which may be purchased, of course). This restaurant is the best brunch in Paris with a view.
Tip: Even if you don’t intend to purchase the photo, take one anyway in case you change your mind; taking a selfie with a camera can be hit or miss due to lighting. Also, the ticket to the 58 Tour Eiffel does not include access to the top floor.
Second Floor
The 2nd floor of the Eiffel Tower is accessible by stairs or elevators and it’s the busiest floor of the tower. After lunch, walk up to the second floor and enjoy the large observation deck which provides outstanding views of Paris.
There is a variety of gift shops and dining options, a macaroon bar, and the Michelin-starred restaurant, Jules Verne, for fine dining.
Top Floor
Access to Vertigo is by elevator only and requires a ticket. The area is not as expansive and is not accessible to wheelchairs.
The bird’s eye views are ahh-mazing from the top floor, but it can be windy, so an extra layer of removable clothing is recommended, especially in cooler seasons.
There is a champagne bar and you can even take a peek inside the former office of Gustave Eiffel.
When is the Eiffel Tower Open
The tower is open from 9:00 AM to shortly after midnight. If you prefer to experience it without lunch, the busiest times are between 11:00 AM and 10:00 PM. Price will vary depending on the choice of visiting options.
How Much is Admission to the Eiffel Tower
Tickets to the Eiffel vary by the floor you want to access and visit. The cost of admission ranges between 11 and 29 euros.
The higher you go, the more the ticket will cost. In addition, when you visit the higher floors, the fee is slightly higher to use the elevator.
