Maui Restaurants for Families

This restaurant is a breakfast place in the Maui Seaside Hotel. We stayed here because our flight arrived late in the evening. From the airport, the drive to the hotel took less than 10 minutes and our stay included vouchers for a daily free breakfast.

Upon arrival, we were quickly seated (or we were able to seat ourselves). The breakfast options with the room were fruit & oatmeal, pancakes, and a choice of meat, or eggs & potatoes. We tried all of them between the 3 of us and the food was quite good.

What I liked most was the healthy breakfast options. Service was fast and friendly too.

With no prior expectations, we were unsure what this dining experience would hold as we entered the beachfront. To our delight, we discovered Mama’s serves up some of the island’s freshest, most creative seafood dishes, crafted from local ingredients.

We arrived late in the day when the valet asked if we had reservations, I thought “Uh oh, it’s too late for lunch and too early for dinner and we need reservations? It’s not going to be easy to get a meal here”.

However, the friendly staff quickly had us seated and served delicious Hawaiian fusion dishes.

As first-time guests of Mama’s Fish House, we were extremely impressed by the high-quality food and oceanfront setting. This serendipitous late lunch became one of the highlights of our trip.

We had 3 appetizers (french onion soup, a salad, crab cakes) and 2 drinks (1 mai tai and a virgin hibiscus breeze) — the total was $106 without a tip.

So yes, after you get over the sticker shock, you will enjoy the food. The bread and butter were special and we were treated with complimentary asparagus bisque.

Everything was delicious and the service was attentive. It is a beautifully appointed restaurant on the beach.

Maui Tacos

While driving around Maui to sightsee, my husband was craving tacos. It is one of his favorite foods so when we found this place, it was like striking gold.

The restaurant was in a commercial area and it is off the beaten path. The menu had a great variety but there were no fish tacos. As a vegetarian, I opted for tacos with beans and vegetables while my husband and daughter ordered chicken tacos.

The food portions were generous and tasty. It’s a great place for a quick bite. There is limited outdoor seating but it was nice to be able to enjoy the weather while dining.

Though sushi is not typically our first choice for a family lunch, we decided to stop into this little sushi spot one afternoon when we were hungry and happened to pass by.

Despite not being sushi aficionados, our family of three was pleasantly surprised by the fresh flavors and creative rolls on the menu. We ended up having an enjoyable impromptu sushi meal together.

It was later in the day (after lunchtime) and there was a 10-minute wait. After quick instruction from staff on how to use the tablets, we ordered 3 or 4 times (the limit was 4 menu items per request).

The food came out very quickly and tasted very good. If you love sushi, you should add this to your list. It’s a fun treat for kids because the food delivery is on a train belt.

We experienced outages (meaning, some food items were no longer available) but there were plenty of options from which we could choose.

If I had one improvement, it would be to offer free WiFi.
Otherwise, the restaurant was very affordable and we enjoyed the experience. I hope to visit again.

Without a doubt, the best experience was at Mama’s Fish House. We had views of the ocean and the food was beautifully presented.

Maui is home to iconic treats like shaved ice, malasadas, and coconut macadamia nut ice cream. So make sure you leave room for desserts!
